Each nuc has a new mated queen and 5 deep frames. Some frames will contain brood (babies), others enough pollen and nectar for a baby hive to be off to a fabulous start, and one will have room for them to grow. Our northern queen bee genetics yield a bee that is gentle, darker than normal, great honey producers, and excellent overwintering ability. Our Carniolan-Italian hybrid breeder stock comes from Dr. Joe Latshaw in Ohio. These nucs will be ready for pickup or delivery during the last half of April.

Honey is hygroscopic, which means that it easily absorbs moisture from the air. Thus, in areas with a very high humidity it can be difficult to produce honey of relatively low water content. Raw honey's moisture content can be as low as 14%, and is deemed by some as more valuable (Wikipedia, Honey). Most bees deposit hydrogen peroxide into the honey as they synthesize flower pollen. It's widely recommended that new beekeepers start with 2 hives. There are two primary reasons for this recommendation.
